Everyday Work Makeup: The Snooze Button Edition

Ok ok I will admit it… I love my beauty sleep way more than I love my beauty products. There. I said it.

Especially lately, I find it more difficult than usual to leave the comfort of my bed. Outside it’s cold, and grey and rainy, work is at a boring phase this period and I usually stay up very late to catch up with my university assignments… Can you really blame me for hitting the snooze button one too many times???

As much as I love makeup, in days like this I would have preferred to not put any at all. Unfortunately, I must show up at work and look at the very least awake (preferably presentable too) so I sacrifice those precious extra 5 minutes in bed for a minimal makeup look.

These are my makeup products of choice when I am only half-awake and in a rush to get to work:

All Products

Elizabeth Arden Visible Difference Good Morning Retexturizing Primer – As much as I am in a rush, primer is very important for me. I have combination skin and, especially in winter, by the end of the day I become a greaseball with dry patches. Not a good look. Primer helps with that.

Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch – I have a specific primer for under my eyes. Yes, I’m weird, I know. The reason I do that is because I have fine lines (since I was 15… annoying) that are incredibly deep if I am tired. This primer helps in smoothing out the area so that my concealer doesn’t crease.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Beauty Balm – Coverage-wise this doesn’t offer much. But I can apply it fast, with my fingers, it evens out my skin tone, it blurs any pores that are visible (it will not do much for spots and blemishes but thankfully I don’t have any at the moment) and it has SPF20 in it! Perfect for when I cannot be bothered with brushes and blending before I even had my coffee!

Benefit Erase Paste – My saviour! It manages to cover up my dark circles easy and fast. It gives the illusion that I slept more than 4 hours the previous night.

Clinique Chubby Stick Cheek Colour Balm in 01 – amp’d up apple – A quick flush of colour to my cheeks to make me look alive. I blend with my fingers so it is easy and fast. The colour is very natural on me, when in doubt I always default to this blush. It looks good with everything and is very flattering on my skintone.

M.A.C. Select Sheer Pressed Powder A setting powder for all over the face. It mattifies everything, keeps my concealer from creasing and offers just a bit more coverage. This is the only product in this setup that requires a brush.

Guerlain Terracotta 4 seasons Bronzer – Just a light dust of this bronzer with the classic 3-shape technique. I don’t always do this step, only when needed to get rid of the paleness.

Lord&Berry Strobing Pencil #1153 – No, I am not applying intricate strobing techniques with half my eyes closed from sleepiness. Technically, this may be a strobing pencil, but I am using it as a nude eyeliner pencil for my waterline. You can barely see that something is there but it makes such a huge difference in opening my eyes and make me look awake and ready to seize the day (which I am not I assure you….)

Emite Eyelash Curler & Clarins Wonder Perfect Mascara in 01 – Wonder Black A quick sweep of mascara over my curled lashes and we are done! I *almost* look like a responsible adult!

The upgrade:

Eyeshadows

For days that I need to be just a little bit more put-together even though I don’t have time, I have been sporting a 1-shadow look. My shadows of choice in days like this are colours that are nude but shimmery so that they can give the impression that I have a different colour in my crease.

In case I do wear eyeshadow I always apply my Urban Decay Primer Potion first. The eyeshadows I use more often for this look (one at a time) are:

My trusty Illamasqua Beyond Powder highlighter in OMG is an optional step but I like to add it to complete the look.

For the final touch, I just throw my favourite scarf over a simple top and no one would ever guess that I got out of my bed 10 minutes ago.

What are your go-to makeup products when you are in a rush?

  1. I’m exactly the same in the mornings, you will be lucky if you see me awake 30 minutes before I have to leave for work. I’m a get up a leave kinda girl haha.
I loved this concept and there were some great products here!

  2. I find that i don’t like wearing makeup when i feel like it’s a chore. I’d rather skip wearing it if i was having an early start and just wear concealer and mascara and then spend i day where even if i wasn’t going out, playing and experimenting with makeup and creating a look. I don’t know why but i like the feeling or doing my makeup in a non rushed enviroment.

I understand what you mean and totally agree with you. Problem is, I can’t show up at work looking completely undone. My solution is to put only what I know it works and it doesn’t take much time. Creative looks and winged eyeliners are only for the days where I feel like experimenting

If you manage to set a routine that you know that works you can do your makeup in only a few minutes. No room for creativity here, just do the basics.

I don’t blame you. One of my favourite things when I am working from home is that I can literally wake up 5 mins before the time I am expected to start working, and still be on time.
