NaNoWriMo 2017 Challenge Accepted

Today’s post is not related to beauty products, but to the blog itself. If you read my Zombie-face post (How to Rejuvenate a Zombie Face) you have already seen examples of my extremely hectic schedule. Between work and university, during the last few months blogging has taken a back seat in my life; I simply lacked the time to spend writing. After a while, I ended up losing my motivation also; it had been too long since the last time I had posted, and I lost my momentum.

The trigger for getting back to it and start posting again was a product I tried for which I had a very strong opinion (read about it in my Redken Hairmask post here). Problem is, now that I got my motivation back, I have tons of ideas in my mind and I want to make sure that I don’t lose focus again due to my crazy schedule.

A Beauty Lover's Stories | NaNoWriMo - National November Writers Month for Bloggers

Well, my timing couldn’t be better, as 1st November was the launch of the NaNoWriMo challenge. NaNoWriMo stands for National November Writers Month and challenges all writers to write 50 000 words within a month.

NaNoWriMo is meant to help novelists to get the first 50 000 words of whatever project they were working on down on paper, basically finishing the first draft of their novel.

The original challenge has been modified, to include all kinds of content creators, like bloggers. The idea is to spread the 50 000 words across different blog posts and create a bank of draft posts, ready to be edited and published when the time is right.

Amazing idea, right?

A Beauty Lover's Stories | NaNoWriMo Challenge | Count Me In!

As soon as I saw Sharron’s post launching the blogger’s version of the challenge (read here for more information) I immediately thought about all the benefits a challenge like this would give me:

  • Having a set goal will give me the motivation I need to sit and work on my blog after a long day at work.
  • Having announced my goal publicly, will hold me accountable and it won’t be easy to quit. I am also hoping that you guys will cheer me on 😋
  • Working on this challenge will help get back my writing momentum, effectively making it easier for me to write new quality posts faster and easier.
  • Once I have successfully completed the challenge and reached my goal, I will have batch created lots of posts. That way, in case I find myself extremely busy due to a university assignment or with a sudden business trip, I will have posts ready and scheduled to publish, keeping my blog’s consistency.

Of course, for a blog like this, 50 000 words will have to be spread out to about 60+ posts, which would be quite a reach for me, even if I worked on it full-time. So, I set my own goal. A more realistic one, but still difficult for me.

Write a minimum of 3 posts per week until the end of the month.

quilWish me luck!

Happy reading to all and happy writing to anyone who is participating!

  1. I love NaNoWriMo! It’s so uplifting and encouraging for writers everywhere. It definitely helps get you back into the groove of writing no matter your schedule.

  2. I did Nano for the first time last year and it was a blast. I actually wrote just over the 50K on my first novel, although I have yet to complete it. Can you check the link for that post introducing the blogger’s version of the challenge? I’m interested in reading that but the link isn’t active on your “Click here.”

    1. I never heard of it before either, but apparently it is a very big event in case you are a novelist. Even if you are not able to reach the 50K goal, you can set your own goals like I did. I’ve never been more focused and more productive before in terms of blogging.
Having a tough challenge always keeps me going!
      You should try it!

  3. Fantastic goal to work towards and incredibly realistic, although if you’re anything like me, writing a blog post takes a week+ haha! This would definitely be a great way of speeding up writing time though, although having enough ideas is another problem. Looking forward to see if you meet your goal – good luck!!

    1. It usually takes a while to complete a post. But the idea of the challenge is to write down as much as possible and leave editing for later. I also thought I would have difficulties finding so many post ideas, however the more I write, the more ideas I get!!
Hopefully I can keep it up!
      Thanks for reading!

    1. Yay!!! Glad to know I’m not alone! Don’t worry about being late, the important part is to set your goal and follow through. I wish you the best of luck!! Happy writing!
